To answer that, let me take you back in time…
Back to a time when it seemed like every PT made money from workshops.
Including me (at the Paul Gough Physio Rooms)
I did my first ever in-clinic workshop in 2016 and back then it was one of the fastest and most reliable ways to fill up my schedule.

I still dream about the “good old days” when all you had to do was announce that you were running a “Back Pain and Sciatica” workshop, and 55 people would register (and most would show up and buy).
Battling against a completely FREE health care system in the UK is never easy, but workshops allowed me to build trust with my patients and in their eyes, I became an instant expert showing up to help them BEFORE I asked for any money.
Admittedly, I wasn’t the first to run workshops – I simply copied the model that everyone else was doing at the time and it worked like crazy.
That was then!
But then came 2020, and with it, a deadly virus that brought workshops as we knew them to a crashing halt.
Through the COVID years, workshops dropped off a cliff – no one liked the idea of sitting next to someone who might infect and kill them – and they never got back to the same levels of success.
It led to many people – myself included asking “are workshops DEAD?”…
Well, the answer is “NO” (they’re not still dead)…
But…
Anyone still using the OLD MODEL for filling up a workshop is finding it harder to make work, always worried about whether anyone will show up, and in that respect, they ARE dead.
If that’s you, I want you to know it’s not just you – it IS getting harder, and that’s because everything has changed in the last few years…
People don’t need to attend a workshop anymore to learn about their back pain – they can watch something on YouTube or download an App to get answers.
They can even watch healthcare experts on TikTok, 24/7.
Then there’s the problem with letting people know your workshop is actually happening.
It’s getting harder (and more expensive) to market anything to anyone, let alone workshops for a back pain seminar.
Frist of all you have to market to them differently…
…it’s not enough to run an ad in the newspaper, or just use Facebook.
Then you have to talk to them differently at the event, and you definitely shouldn’t be trying to “sell”…
In this turbulent financial climate, you can’t “sell” to people anymore.
No-one likes to be sold to at the best of times, but in this economy, where money is tight, regular people are looking for any reason to say “no”.
If you get your “pitch” wrong, you can easily lose trust and come across as a “sleazy salesperson” turning more people off than on.
There’s also the small matter of not “over-educating” at the event…
Contrary to popular belief, a workshop is NOT all about educating – it’s about doing other things and saying other things that they REALLY need to hear from you that when done right makes them trust you more.
